Homemade eggnog. It’s the best. Once you taste this recipe, you will never want to buy commercial eggnog again. And if you don’t like eggnog, I invite you to try this homemade version. You might change your mind.
Eggnog is a very special treat for our family. We only have it during the holidays, but we make every effort to fit it in somewhere into the holiday schedule. The overarching question in our family is, “When are we going to do eggnog?”
This year, we decided to have it as a snack before we left for our church’s Christmas Eve service, thinking that would also make it easier to wait for a late supper. That was a good plan. Why didn’t we think of that years ago? It also became a special moment as we gathered in a circle and raised our glasses to give honor to the Lord we love. I found it centered me, helping me shift gears and focus from that moment on the official celebration of Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
But eggnog doesn’t have to be just for Christmas. Use it to celebrate the New Year as your family and friends gather on New Year’s Eve to celebrate the year behind you and to anticipate the year before you. It’s one of those wonderful foods that is best if done together.
Enjoy!
