Short Bio
Karen Wingate is a speaker, Bible study leader, and author of ten books, including the award-winning book, With Fresh Eyes: 60 Insights into the Miraculously Ordinary from a Woman Born Blind. As someone born with a severe visual impairment who experienced better than ever eyesight mid-life, Karen shares with her audiences how, through Jesus Christ, they too can take a fresh look at life and experience renewed hope in a better than ever life that God has waiting for each one of us.
Karen lives with her husband Jack in her hometown of Tucson, Arizona. They have two daughters and two grandchildren. Karen enjoys teaching a neighborhood bible study, baking homemade bread, and creating handmade blankets for a pregnancy care center.

Karen Wingate is the author of the award-winning book, With Fresh Eyes: 60 Insights into the Miraculously Ordinary from a Woman Born Blind. The book, written in devotional style, tells of the author’s journey toward visual acuity she had never experienced before and shares how all of us can see God in new ways if we pay attention as if we are seeing Him and His ways for the first time. The book has been awarded the 2022 ECPA Christian Book Award in the Devotions and Gifts category and the 2022 Selah Award for Devotionals.
Karen’s writing career spans thirty-five years. She has produced Christian education curriculum and devotions for several companies, has written hundreds of magazine articles and devotions, stories in several compilation books, writes a monthly blog on her website, www.karenwingate.com, and sends out a weekly newsletter of encouragement to her more than 1200 email subscribers. She contributes regularly to the online devotionals, Proverbs 31 Encouragement for Today and Arise Daily. Karen will release two new books at the beginning of 2025: With Open Ears: An Invitation to Celebrate the Wonder of Sound (Kregel), and Grateful Heart: 60 Reasons to Thank God in All Things (Our Daily Bread Publications).
After the publication of her first book, With Fresh Eyes, Karen appeared on the Focus on the Family broadcast among other radio and television interviews and speaking events at community and church venues. Seminary trained, Karen has directed women’s ministry programs, served as a team member for children’s ministry and worship teams, and led women’s bible studies in six different states as she worked with her pastor-husband in located ministry. Karen and her husband, Jack, now live in Southern Arizona after Jack’s retirement from full time ministry. They have two adult daughters: one is a major and optometrist in the U.S. Army and the other is a team member with Pioneer Bible Translators, serving as a literacy specialist overseas.
