Valentine’s Day has come and gone. Is that all there is to this thing called love?
- The flowers are wilting.
- The chocolate is gone.
- The cards are dusty.
- The seasonal section of Walmart is stocked with green hats and furry bunnies.
Some days it feels like the warm fuzzies got sucked out along with the helium in our heart shaped mylar balloon. The weary, dreary winter days don’t help. Is there more to this love thing than Valentine expressions?
God’s Word says yes!
The Bible repeats the refrain forty-four times – God’s love endures forever.
“Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; His love endures forever (1 Chronicles 16:34).”
And you thought those were mere words from a contemporary Christian song!
The promise is for real. God’s love is different than the transient, self-motivated lusty desire of the world. His love is consistent, compassionate, and undiscriminating. It’s more solid than a Hershey’s kiss, more color-fast than a fading rose, and more sincere than a Hallmark sentiment.
What is enduring love?
God will love you:
- No matter who you are
- No matter what you do
- No matter what is done to you.
At times, He may need to exact tough love on you called discipline and at the end of time, called judgement. But He still loves you. He’ll go to any length to get you back into His presence. In fact, He did do just that when He died on the cross.
Are you feeling unloved and unlovable, surrounded with signs of transient love? You are loved. God loves you with an everlasting love (see Jeremiah 31:3).
What He wants most is you.
How could anyone resist that level of love? Seek Him out. Return His love. Get to know better this God who longs to lavish the riches of Heaven on you.
He’s waiting for you.
