We all need reminders of God’s everlasting love.
Have you ever had one of those days where nothing goes right? Meal prep becomes a series of mistakes or spills? You trip over everything, even the flat surfaces?
I had a day like that this week. I seemed to trip over every people encounter. My husband was sick with bronchitis and I was tired from a sleepless night. I called a business for information and after four rings, got an automated voice telling me the message box was full and I couldn’t leave a message. My tired judgmental mind wondered how badly they wanted my business. I was stuck in a house with a sick man who wasn’t able to show me the sympathy I wanted for my exhaustion and a long distance relative changed the subject abruptly when I told her my husband was sick. In my fatigue wrapped lapse, I began to feel pretty unimportant and unloved.
“I must not be worth the time of day to anyone,” the carnal me whined.
“You know better than that,” I told myself. “God loves you and thinks you’re fantastic.”
Yeah, I know that. I wanted proof. Cling to God’s promises. What does the Bible say?
My brain was way too tired. What were all those verses I was supposed to know that remind me of God’s attitude toward me?
So—this is wonderful—I admitted my weakness to my Facebook World. Within minutes, I had a lap full of terrific verses. Some verse were like familiar friends; others had never caught my attention before.
Have you ever felt unloved or unimportant? Do you feel that way right now? If your answer is no, you will probably feel that way sometime in the future.
I want to share a part of the list my Facebook friend compiled for me.
“The Lord our God is with you,
the Mighty Warrior who saves.
He will take great delight in you;
in his love he will no longer rebuke you,
but will rejoice over you with singing.” – Zeph 3:17
“See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.” – 1 John 3:1:
“I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.” – Jeremiah 31:3
“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Deuteronomy 31:6
“Can a mother forget the baby at her breast
and have no compassion on the child she has borne?
Though she may forget, I will not forget you!See, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands; your walls are ever before me.” – Isaiah 49:15,16
“But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” – 2 Thess 3:3
Aren’t these great? I’m thankful I admitted my need. This Christianity thing is a teamwork affair. We need to lift each other up, encourage each other, and fill in the gaps when our brother or sister’s mind is too tired to stand on its own. We never know how the mutual encouragement might bless someone else.
In addition to loving us so much and having fantastic plans for us, God promises to refresh the weary (Jer 31:25). This time, He used His people to do just that.
Thanks, Facebook friends!
