My husband and I went with another couple last weekend to see the movie, “The Son of God.” Wow! Roma Downey and her team used the finest resources of cinematography to turn the Word into picture, images I will remember and treasure. If you haven’t seen the movie, I don’t think I’m spoiling it by sharing some of the movie’s finer moments.
Powerful moments in the movie, “The Son of God:”
- Jesus holding out a rock to those condemning the woman caught in adultery.
- The look on Matthew’s face before Jesus called him to be his disciple.
- Peter’s foot about to touch the water as Jesus called him to walk on the water.
- Jewish families bringing their Passover lambs to the Temple as Jesus carried His cross in the background.
- Mary, Jesus’ mother, leaving her lump of bread dough when she heard Jesus had come to town
- The servant of the high priest touching his healed ear several times as he ran after the soldiers dragging Jesus away.
- Simon of Cyrene carrying the cross with Jesus. Wow!
- Snapshots of the future going through Jesus’ mind before he served his disciples the Lord’s Supper. He knew what would happen to him. He knew why it would happen. What better evidence of both the divinity and humanity of Jesus.
- The look on Pilate’s wife’s face as he told her regarding the death of Jesus, “In a year, no one will remember.” The look on her face says, “I will.” And so will the rest of the world – for millennia to come.
Why haven’t I mentioned images from the crucifixion and resurrection? For me, there weren’t any. In my next post, I’ll explain why.
This is such a powerful picture. I loved the moment when Jesus told Peter what they do: “Change the world.”
